This short (3.6 mile) ride takes you out along the Nith and then back along the New Abbey Road using the Mavis Grove cycle path, and through Troqueer on a couple of quiet residential streets.
This is a very easy ride – although the short stretch along Mavis Grove itself is poorly surfaced so don’t bring a bike with very skinny tyres. The route follows the Nith past the sewage works (more pleasant than it sounds) and along Mavis Grove to the New Abbey Road. There we are safely separated from the traffic on a shared use path until we get to the outskirts of Dumfries where technically we should rejoin the road for a very short stretch (we will either use the pavement or wheel our bikes). We then make our way through a couple of residential streets to Troqueer Primary School where we cut through to George Douglas Drive and then back onto the cycle path.
This route is a good introduction to Troqueer and, once the routes to the new hospital are completed, will join up with the rest of the Abbey Road cycle route.
Meet at Dock Park for a 2pm start. There is ample all-day parking at the park.
