With our Bike Message Challenge well under way (and keep those tweets and Facebook pictures coming – it’s great to see people out enjoying the sunshine and the delights of Dumfries by bike …) our thoughts are now turning to our plans for July and August.
We’ll be meeting on Tuesday 14th June (note that once more this is not the first Tuesday of the month…) at 6pm in the Coach and Horses and there’s a lot to plan. We’ll be kicking off our Summer Ride programme with a Bike Curious family cycling workshop in conjunction with Cycling UK on Saturday 2nd July – and we need your help.
This will be a chance for those who are interested in cycling with their families a chance to try out different solutions – from child seats on bikes, to trailers, tagalongs, kids’ bikes and even cargo bikes. If you’re already cycling with your children, or have done so, then your expertise is needed! Come along and share your experiences, show off your family cycling set ups and encourage others to try them out. If you can help, let us know in the comments or email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
We also need people to help out with our summer rides as ride leaders and helpers. Over the years, these have gone from strength to strength with turnouts of over 20 people – and that means we need more people who can lend a hand. Whether you can lead a ride, help fix bikes when the inevitable mechanical breakdowns occur, or just help keep the group together, we need you! Even volunteering for just one Saturday in July or August would be a huge help with the scheduling. These rides are great fun and have introduced so many families to new routes and encouraged them to cycle more – so it will be time well spent. Again, if you can help, email us or let us know in the comments – or drop in to the Coach on Tuesday week to find out more in person.
Meanwhile, get out and enjoy this sunshine while it lasts!
