Spring into Life

Next weekend the clocks “spring forward” – and that can mean only one thing: our regular meetings restart! (and all the other less important things like lighter evenings, the arrival  of British Summer Time and so on…). This year we’re ringing the changes somewhat and moving them to the first Tuesday of every month.  That means we’ll be meeting  on Tuesday 1st April at the Coach and Horses, at 6pm. As ever, it will be as much about cycle chat and beer as any formal agenda but we will be able to fill people in on developments with the new hospital (and some potentially good news).

With spring also comes our Easter Ride – another family-friendly ride, which this year forms part of the events to mark the refurbishment and reopening of Dock Park. Meet at 11am on Monday 7th April for a really easy pootle around the park and its environs – or pop by before or after to visit our joint stall with Sustrans.

With spring also comes a plea for volunteers. Dumfries NorthWest Church is offering to run regular monthly Bike Breakfasts – the last Friday of every month. This is not a “church” event and is not anything to do with gaining new recruits; they’re just lending their facilities to encourage cycling and healthy communities. Our last bike breakfast was a huge success and while this one will not be entirely free (there will be a suggested donation of £3 to cover costs), it will encourage more people to try cycle commuting over the summer and also help to build more of a community among existing cyclists in the town. However, to make it work, it will need volunteers to cook and serve. If you can spare one morning a month (or just a one off here or there) then please let us know. The first one will be Friday 25th April, 8-9 am
