The following has arrived from the Council: (and it can’t possibly be wetter than it was last year!)
Want a chance to be part of the UK’s biggest professional cycle race when it comes to Dumfries on the afternoon of Tuesday 11thSeptember?
Stage 3 of the Tour of Britain passes through Dumfries town centre (including the Whitesands) and then loops around Dumfries returning to the Whitesands for the finish. Given the profile of the event and the press cycling has had in recent weeks and months with British success in the Tour de France and Olympics large crowd numbers are anticipated on the route and in Dumfries itself. Crowd estimates have been further increased as both Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish have confirmed that they will be participating.
The organisers are looking to recruit volunteers to help deliver the Dumfries element of the event. The role of volunteers would be to:
- Staff manned points and provide assistance at crossing points
- Help the public move around safely
- Act as “the eyes and ears” of the organisers
- Keep the highways and pathways clear when required
- Provide support to the organisers and the police if called upon to do so
If would be keen to help out then you need to be available between approximately 12.00pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday 11th September and able to get to Dumfries Town Centre. You would then receive a briefing and be deployed in your designated role. When the event is concluded all volunteers will receive a Tour of Britain goody bag as a token of appreciation.
To volunteer please forward your name, contact telephone number and email address to: Darren.firstname.lastname@example.org
Please register your details by Tuesday 4th September and I will then confirm final arrangements with all volunteers by Friday 7th September.
