October is coming fast upon us which means the next informal pub meeting will be be soon – next Thursday to be exact. This time we’ll meet at six in the Bruce on Buccleuch street, which hopefully won’t be too loud and crowded. I’ve recently returned from a week in the Netherlands looking at Dutch cycling infrastructure which, for those who’ve never seen it, is simply amazing. I’ll try and have my laptop available so people can see a (small!) selection of photos and video clips from the visit. Truly something to aspire to.
Closer to home, this weekend is the Day of the Region event, a celebration of rural communities which will be taking place in Castle Douglas,Creetown,Crocketford, Gatehouse of Fleet and The Glenkens. As part of the celebrations, the CTC will be leading two rides, on Saturday and Sunday (which is two days, but who’s counting?) through the participating towns and villages. Saturday’s shorter ride is a 30 miler from Castle Douglas to New Galloway, Sunday’s longer 70 mile ride will start in Castle Douglas and take in Crocketford, New Galloway, Creetown and Gatehouse.
