Saturday 11th August. Another short ride – just 4.5 miles and mostly on traffic-free paths, shared paths, and residential roads.

Lincluden and Lochside – gateway to some great quiet rural roads. Click on the map for more details of the route
A short easy ride that takes you to northwest Dumfries. We start along the Whitesands and over the College Bridge to College Road. From there we go through Goldie Park and over the A75-A76 roundabout on the bridge. Crossing the A76 using the toucan crossing we cycle along Lochside Road (from here it would be possible to extend the ride to the Irongray road and out into the countryside, if people wanted). Then turn left along Alloway Road to Hardthorn Road where we join the shared-use footpath. We follow the road until we rejoin the Maxwelltown cycleway and from there back to College Road and the Whitesands to Dock Park.
This route takes you out to Northwest Dumfries, from where it is possible to reach miles and miles of quiet rural roads out towards Irongray, Milton, Corsock and beyond so this is a good route for those who might want to stretch their legs out into the countryside. At 4.5 miles it’s short enough for all ages and abilities, although children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
Meet at Dock Park at 2pm. There’s free parking all day for cars and a bike hire point for the Go Bikes. If you don’t have a bike then let us know and we can arrange a free hire for the afternoon. There’s really no excuse!
